Milan is a city of sights. Its highlights include one of the oldest churches in the world, an acclaimed opera house, fashionable boutiques aplenty and, of course, Leonardo’s mural The Last Supper. Your tour starting with a visit inside the famous Duomo in the heart of the city. It is the 5th-largest church in the world and the second largest in Italy. The construction of the cathedral was commissioned by bishop Antonio da Saluzzo in 1385. He was supported by the first duke of Milan, Gian Galeazzo Visconti, who envisioned the creation of the world’s largest church. The Duomo is decorated with an amazing number of beautifully sculpted statues and spires. Of particular note inside the cathedral are a number of architectural pieces and works of art including a statue of St. Bartholomew by Marco d’Agrate. Your next stop is the impressive Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – a 19th-century glass-vaulted elegant shopping mall. You can admire the spectacular shops as you pass through the gallery to reach Piazza della Scala. The final stop and highlight of this walking tour is Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper the worldfamous mural painting of Leonardo da Vinci, located inside the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. The painting represents the scene of The Last Supper during Jesus’ final days, narrated in the Gospel of John 13:21, when Jesus announced that one of his Twelve Apostles would betray him.Da Vinci had this work commissioned from the patron Ludovico Sforza Duke of Milan in 1495 and completed it in 1498. It was part of a renovation project to renew the back wall of the dining hall at Santa Maria delle Grazie. Day 3 – VERONA
After breakfast, leave Milan by Hi- Speed Train and travel to Verona. Famous as the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The riches of Verona – its colorful history, elegant shops, vibrant markets and lively atmosphere make it one of the under-discovered gems of Italy. Verona is a compact, charming city of just over 250,000 inhabitants. A flourishing Roman colony by the first century BC, Verona today has a collection of Roman landmarks second only to Rome’s, as well as fine examples of medieval and Renaissance architecture. Today, you’ll explore the ancient city and see its star attraction: Verona Arena (Arena di Verona), a UNESCO World Heritage site Piazza della Erbe and Juliet’s House. Lose yourself in the setting of the world’s most romantic story and see the balcony where Juliet was serenaded by Romeo. There’s the famous balcony (which may have been built later on), and a statue of Juliet in the courtyard. The question of whether these famous lovers really existed is still debated, but if you are patient you can wait your turn to stand next to her statue for a photo opportunity. Although the perhaps fictional, perhaps real Juliet has a house and statue, there is much less to show the (possible) existence of her lover, Romeo. In the late afternoon, checking into your hotel or B&B and spend your night at leisure.
